Making a Slip Knot

The first thing that each crocheter should know is how to form the first loop that goes on the hook, called a slip knot. Here are the steps:

1. Form a small cycle from the yarn end.

2. Bring the yarn from the tail end through the cycle.

3. Draw a loop through the cycle and pull the slip knot closed.

4. In order to make the loop smaller, insert the hook in the loop and pull on the non-tail end.

5. Tighten the loop further. It should matches the size of the following chains.
