Crochet Basics

Before you start

Sit comfortably in good light. As with any new skill, learning to crochet requires a lot of patience and perseverance. If you get stuck, take a deep breath to relax, make yourself a cup of tee or just call a friend and get out for a nice walk in the park (usually I prefer a cup of tee and some nice music). And try again, and again, and... again...

Remember crafting must be fun. You can create handmade gifts for yourself and people you love. When you give a lovingly crochet gift, part of you goes into it. Your time, talent, the yarn and color you select (even the thoughts and feelings you have while you work) are part of your gift! :o)

I've made the following step by step photo tutorials and explained some helpful information for you which you might find useful:

Basic Stitches

The basic crochet stitches have different names, depending on weather you are reading American or British pattern. Mine crochet instructions, crochet tips and patterns are written using the American crochet technology. The following chart will help you follow a pattern from UK.
